My family and I are in the midst of our annual summer vacation. A friend of mine preached for me this morning back home and I am told that the service went well. That said, my blog entry this week is more of a narrative than a sermon summary... I hope you don't mind.
Our yearly family reunion was held at Lake Buchanan this past weekend. It was a good time to see several relatives whom we've not seen since last summer. As always, the food was fabulous - topped off by Dad's big fish fry. We went out in the boat a few times, and I was encouraged to realize that there are still a few lakes left in Texas deep enough to go on a boat ride...
After the reunion ended this morning, we headed to Mom's house where we will spend the rest of the week. Over the next few days the kids will likely play for hours in the pool while Janice and I are hoping catch up with family. We don't get to see them nearly enough. Meem and Peep are both getting quite frail, an unfortunate consequence of old age I suppose... and since we did not get to come down last summer we made it a priority this year.
Meem is the model of a godly wife, a picture of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. Over the years she has served her family, her church, and the Lord faithfully and with impeccable grace. Peep is my first spiritual mentor, himself an embodiment of the godly men described in Scripture. His influence on the church - and on my life cannot be understated. He is a prime example of a righteous man. Following godly wisdom they have led us honorably for decades. Together they are the Abraham and Sarah of our family, and their legacy will live on in countless ways.
So this week is all about family... seeing those we love and loving those we see. We are so fortunate to have them, and look forward to few more days together. Until next week, God bless you.
